Bukavu, DRC - The Pamoja kwa Amani coalition has sounded the alarm over a new wave of violence in South Kivu, reporting that at least 12 civilians were arrested and executed on the night of November 23-24, 2025 by fighters from the AFC/M23 coalition in the Katana region of Kabare territory.

The victims, aged between 20 and 40, were accused of collaborating with the Wazalendo, allies of the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo). Among the dead was a patient forcibly taken from a health center before execution.

The NGO also documented other summary executions, including the killing and burial in a mass grave of two young men from the same family on November 21 in Kaniola, Walungu territory.

According to the Pamoja kwa Amani coalition, these acts, coupled with the dramatic escalation of violence, underscore the persistent severity of the security and humanitarian crisis in South Kivu, highlighting the urgent need for international attention and intervention to protect civilians.
