Shabunda, South Kivu, November 18, 2025 - Torrential rains accompanied by strong winds caused widespread destruction on Wednesday in the Shabunda territory. Authorities report that around 1,500 homes were destroyed, while public infrastructure, including Kisubi and Mankulu primary schools and the Congolese National Police (PNC) detention center, suffered significant damage.

The Bangoma group in the Bakisi chiefdom was the hardest hit, with nearly 800 brick houses and 600 huts made of branches destroyed. A ten-year-old child was injured, and several families were forced to spend the night outdoors.

Local organizations, including the New Civil Society of Congo (NSCC), have issued an urgent appeal to the government and NGOs for humanitarian assistance for the affected families.
