Rwandan Women in Mozambique Urged to Seize Opportunities at International Women’s Day

Maputo, Mozambique March 8, 2026 - Rwandan women living in Mozambique have been encouraged to take full advantage of opportunities created by their home country, during celebrations marking International Women's Day in the capital, Maputo. The event, held at the Polana Serena Hotel, brought together more than 120 participants, including government officials and members of the Rwandan diaspora. Among those in attendance were Ministerial Advisor Kenneth Viagem Marizane, Dr. Anabela Inguane representing the Maputo City Council, and Rwanda’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Donat Ndamage. Speaking at the gathering, Sangwa Aline, Commissioner for Women’s Development within the Rwandan community in Mozambique, emphasized the importance of empowering women to fully utilize available opportunities. “Let us seize the opportunities our country has given us, build our confidence, and strengthen our capabilities,” she said. Ambassador Ndamage highlighted Rwanda’s progress in promoting gender equality, noting the significant representation of women in leadership positions. “We must continue to build a society characterized by equality, justice, and sustainable development, where women and girls play a full role in governance and social life,” he stated. He pointed out that women currently make up 63 percent of Rwanda’s lower house of parliament, alongside growing representation at district leadership levels, while acknowledging that further progress is still needed. The ambassador also commended the leadership of Paul Kagame and Francisco Daniel Chapo for their commitment to advancing gender equality and inclusion, underscoring the strong ties between Rwanda and Mozambique. Mozambican official Kenneth Viagem Marizane praised the contributions of Rwandan women in the country, describing them as hardworking and impactful members of society.
