Rutsiro: Police Officer Shoots Two People Before Taking His Own Life
Rutsiro District - The National Police and the Criminal Investigation Department have opened an investigation after a police officer on duty in Rutsiro District shot two people before taking his own life. The incident occurred on the night of December 10, 2025, in Boneza Sector, Bushaka Cell, Bikono Village.
According to reports, the officer shot an employee of the District Security Support Unit (Dasso) and a local resident. Eyewitnesses indicated that the victims appeared to have been involved in an argument prior to the shooting.
Western Province Police Spokesperson, SP Sylvestre Twajamahoro, confirmed the incident:
“It is true that the police officer shot two people, injuring them (one resident and a Dasso employee) and then shot himself to death. An investigation into the cause of the shooting has been launched.”
The injured individuals were transported to CHUK University Hospital for treatment, while the body of the officer was taken to the National Forensic Science and Technology Institute (RFI) for examination.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
