RAMU Expansion: CNAMU Intensifies Registrations Across Provinces
Ouagadougou, December 2, 2025 - As part of the expansion of the Universal Health Insurance (UHI) system, the National Health Insurance Fund (CNAMU) has deployed teams to five regions, covering approximately twenty provinces, throughout November 2025. The main goal is to inform the population about RAMU, its benefits, and to register individuals so they can access the system’s services.
According to Jean-Baptiste Yameogo, technical advisor to the Director General of CNAMU and supervisor for the Boromo-Houndé-Orodara-Sindou region, discussions with the public and healthcare professionals revealed strong enthusiasm for RAMU, alongside questions about registration, enrollment, healthcare access, contributions, and system management in health centers. Mr. Yameogo assured that the State will ensure that everyone can contribute to financing Universal Health Insurance and access quality care.
As of November 18, 2025, over 293,000 people had registered since the launch of the program in September 2024.
For example, in the Kénédougou province, 1,658 individuals had registered, including 612 civil servants and their family members. Achieving this milestone enables CNAMU to prepare for the next phases, particularly the collection of contributions and disbursement of benefits.
Beneficiaries have welcomed this initiative, highlighting its advantages in reducing household financial burdens and promoting solidarity with the most vulnerable. During his visit to Sindou, Mr. Yameogo and his delegation also paid a courtesy call to the High Commissioner of Léraba province, Yacouba Sawadogo, who confirmed the smooth progress of registration activities in his province.
