Presidents Macron and Tshisekedi to Meet in Paris

PARIS February 24, 2026 - French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to meet with Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi in Paris on Wednesday, amid ongoing diplomatic efforts addressing the security and humanitarian crisis in eastern DRC. The two leaders last met on January 23, 2026, at the Élysée Palace, during which discussions centered on the humanitarian situation in eastern DRC and bilateral cooperation between France and the DRC. On February 14, France welcomed Tshisekedi’s commitment to implement a ceasefire proposed by Angola for all warring parties in the Great Lakes region. French authorities also stressed the importance of implementing the Washington Agreement of December 4, 2025, calling on all stakeholders to respect their obligations. French diplomacy reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that peace momentum generated by the Washington Agreement, the Doha Framework Agreement of November 15, 2025, and African Union initiatives translates into tangible improvements in the lives of civilians in eastern DRC. France also highlighted its role in monitoring the humanitarian response, citing the visit of Vivian van de Perre, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Acting Head of MONUSCO, to Goma from February 12-14, 2026. This visit prepared UN support for ceasefire verification and monitoring in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2808 (2025). “The first flight to Goma airport represents a critical step toward resuming small-scale, daytime humanitarian flights. France calls on all parties to collaborate to ensure continued humanitarian access for the benefit of the population,” the French Foreign Ministry stated.
