President Félix Tshisekedi in Luanda for Mediation Talks on Eastern DRC

Luanda, Angola, February 9, 2026 - President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo is in Luanda as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at restoring peace in eastern DRC, a region facing tensions linked to Rwanda. During his visit, President Tshisekedi is scheduled to meet with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, who currently serves as Chairperson of the African Union (AU). Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé and former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo are also participating in the discussions. “At the invitation of the President of Angola and current AU Chairperson, João Lourenço, President Tshisekedi is undertaking a working visit to discuss ongoing mediation initiatives aimed at restoring peace to eastern DRC,” said Tina Salama, spokesperson for the Congolese president. This is President Tshisekedi’s second visit to Luanda in 2026; he previously met with João Lourenço on January 5 to address the security situation in eastern DRC.
