Paris: Congolese Civil Society Advocates for Special Tribunal to Support Peace and Justice in DRC
Paris, France - On October 30, 2025, during the International Conference in Support of Peace and Prosperity in the Great Lakes Region, Nene Bintu, president of the South Kivu Civil Society Coordination Office, called for the creation of a special tribunal for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Bintu emphasized that such a tribunal, complementing the International Criminal Court, is vital to ensuring lasting peace and delivering justice to victims of armed conflict, particularly women and youth who are often marginalized in peace processes.
She further highlighted the importance of pairing humanitarian assistance with civilian protection and actively promoting the inclusion of women in peacebuilding and mediation efforts. Bintu’s appeal aligns with the principles of feminist diplomacy championed by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Denis Mukwege, underscoring the role of inclusive approaches in achieving sustainable peace in the region.
