Kampala , Uganda March 24, 2026 - Security forces in Uganda’s capital have arrested more than 100 suspects following a series of coordinated operations targeting criminal activity across the Kampala Metropolitan Area. The intelligence-led crackdown, carried out on Monday, March 23, involved joint efforts by the Kampala Metropolitan Police and other security agencies. The operations spanned multiple locations in Kampala and neighboring Wakiso District, focusing on areas flagged for rising crime and public disorder. According to police, the initiative was launched in response to increasing complaints from residents over theft, drug-related offenses, and disturbances affecting community safety. In Kira Division, officers conducted raids in Kito B Cell, Kito A Zone, and Kireku Main Zone, leading to the arrest of 34 suspects. In Entebbe Division, operations in Kawafu and Abaita Ababiri resulted in 46 arrests. Additional operations in Kajjansi Town Council-covering KKB Zone, Ssanyi Village, Dewey Village, and Kawali Village-led to 17 suspects being taken into custody. Meanwhile, police in Jinja Road Division arrested seven individuals in Kilombe, with another seven apprehended in Namayumba by Kakiri Police. Authorities said the crackdown primarily targeted criminal networks involved in burglary, phone snatching, substance abuse, and nighttime attacks on pedestrians. Officers also responded to reports of social disorder, including noise pollution and illegal gambling. During the operations, security personnel recovered several items believed to be linked to criminal activity, including suspected narcotics. All suspects remain in custody and are expected to face court proceedings.
