Bobo-Dioulasso, December 16, 2025 - President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, officially inaugurated the construction of the Ouagadougou-Bobo-Dioulasso highway on Tuesday afternoon, marking a major milestone in the country’s infrastructure development. The project, long anticipated by the Burkinabè population, aims to enhance connectivity between the two largest cities.

The four-lane (2x4) highway forms part of the Faso Mêbo Presidential Initiative, designed to improve access to urban and remote areas. Built to modern standards with environmental considerations, the infrastructure will significantly boost mobility and support regional development.

Fully state-funded, the project has been allocated at least 200 billion CFA francs for 2026, as confirmed by President Traoré. He urged residents along the route to actively participate, emphasizing that citizen engagement is key to the project’s success.

Beyond this strategic corridor, the government plans additional regional highways, including the Koudougou-Yako road, which will now be upgraded to an expressway. President Traoré underscored the broader vision: connecting regional capitals to each other and integrating Burkina Faso through a modern road network to stimulate economic growth and national cohesion.
