Niger Launches Housing Market Commission to Promote Social Equity

Niamey, Niger - In response to growing social pressures and speculative practices in urban rental markets, Niger’s Minister of Urban Planning and Housing, Colonel Abdoul Kadri Amadou Daouda, officially installed the members of the National Ad Hoc Commission for Rent Pricing (CNTL) on Monday, October 27, 2025.

The commission is tasked with developing fair and regulated rent mechanisms to address persistent market imbalances, protect tenants from arbitrary rent increases, and ensure equitable access to housing. Officials described the initiative as a landmark reform aimed at enhancing social justice, promoting market transparency, and strengthening the social contract with urban populations.
