Niger Advances Financial and Municipal Governance Reforms
Niamey, Niger - Niger is taking decisive steps to strengthen both national financial stability and local governance. On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine held a strategic consultation with the leadership of the Professional Association of Banks and Financial Institutions of Niger (APBEF-N). The discussions centered on the implications of the newly implemented FSSP levies for the banking sector, coordination of monetary policy, and the role of financial institutions in mobilizing capital for development projects under the country’s refoundation agenda.
In parallel, the government moved to modernize decentralized governance. Under the authority of Minister of State, Minister of the Interior, General of Division Mohamed Toumba, 55 new municipal revenue collectors were appointed and deployed nationwide on Monday, October 27, 2025. Formalized by ministerial decree, the appointments aim to enhance local fiscal administration, improve municipal revenue collection, and curb fiscal leakages-a cornerstone of Niger’s broader decentralization and local development strategy.
