Nationwide Pre-Evaluation of the Agro-Sylvo-Pastoral Campaign UnderwayNIAMEY, Niger - Regional authorities across Niger
The governors of Maradi, Tillabéri, and Diffa led parallel missions on Thursday, November 6, 2025, to assess agricultural, forestry, pastoral, and fisheries conditions in their respective regions.
In Maradi, the Governor, Controller General of Police Mamane Issoufou, accompanied by his Secretary-General and regional technical directors, carried out field evaluations in the departments of Aguié and Mayahi. The mission focused on analyzing crop yields and the impact of rainfall distribution on local production levels.
In Tillabéri, Lieutenant-Colonel Maina Boukar, the regional governor, conducted inspections in Say and Torodi, visiting farms, grazing areas, and fisheries sites. The objective was to measure the balance between agricultural output and pastoral conditions in a region crucial to Niger’s food and livestock economy.
The most concerning findings emerged from Diffa, where Governor General of Division Mahamadou Ibrahim Bagadoma, leading a high-level delegation to Goudoumaria, reported that 108 of the department’s 315 agricultural villages have already been classified as deficit zones. This early warning signals potential food shortages and humanitarian needs in the months ahead, prompting calls for preemptive support to vulnerable communities.
Officials noted that the pre-evaluation missions will inform the government’s forthcoming national food security strategy, ensuring that targeted interventions can be implemented promptly where production deficits are most acute.
