NAEB Laboratory Strengthens Quality Control for Rwanda's Agricultural Exports

KIGALI, Rwanda, July 7, 2026 - Rwanda is strengthening the quality of its agricultural exports through an internationally accredited laboratory operated by the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), which tests soil, fertilizers, irrigation water, and agricultural products to ensure they meet global market standards. The laboratory analyzes crops for pesticide residues, contaminants, mold, and other quality indicators before export, while also testing soil and water to help farmers improve productivity and select appropriate fertilizers. It additionally certifies the quality of products such as coffee, tea, and honey, reducing the risk of export rejections and financial losses for producers and exporters. NAEB officials said the facility's recent international accreditation confirms that its testing procedures meet globally recognized standards. The laboratory is equipped with advanced technology and specialized personnel to support Rwanda's efforts to improve the competitiveness of its agricultural exports. Authorities are encouraging farmers and exporters to routinely test their soil, water, and produce before cultivation and export, saying the practice will improve yields, ensure compliance with international regulations, and protect Rwanda's reputation in global markets. The initiative forms part of the country's broader strategy to increase export earnings and drive economic growth through higher-value agricultural production.
