Mozambique President Visits Rwandan Security Forces in Cabo Delgado
Ancuabe District, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique ; November 29, 2025 - President Daniel Francisco Chapo of Mozambique paid an official visit to the Rwandan Security Forces (RSF) deployed in Cabo Delgado Province, emphasizing the critical role of international cooperation in combating terrorism.
President Chapo was accompanied by senior Mozambican officials, including Minister of Defense Maj Gen Cristovão Artur Chume, Commander-in-Chief of the FADM Gen Julio dos Santos Jane, Commander-in-Chief of the Land Forces Maj Gen André Rafael Mahunguane, and the Cabo Delgado Provincial Administration led by Valige Tauabo. The delegation was received by Maj Gen Vincent Gatama, Head of Rwandan Security Forces.
During the visit, Chapo received a detailed briefing on the security situation in the areas where Rwandan forces operate. The discussions highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Rwandan and Mozambican security forces in counter-terrorism operations across the Ancuabe District.
“I am very grateful to the Rwandan Armed Forces for the excellent work they are doing in Mozambique, which has brought peace and security to this region,” President Chapo said. “Continue to work with your brothers and sisters here, because no progress can be achieved without peace and security.”
The Mozambican President stressed that terrorism is a global challenge, not confined to Mozambique, and highlighted the importance of unity, strong cooperation, and seamless collaboration between the Rwandan and Mozambican forces. He also noted that long-term development projects in the province depend on maintaining peace and security.
The visit underscores Rwanda’s growing role in regional security operations, particularly in supporting countries facing extremist threats, and reflects the close military cooperation between the two nations in Cabo Delgado.
