Minister Amadou Sy Savane Meets British Ambassador
Bamako, February 19, 2026 - Mali’s Minister of National Education, Dr. Amadou Sy Savane, met Thursday with British Ambassador Angus McKee to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in education, officials reported. The meeting, held in Bamako, brought together the ministers’ respective teams to review ongoing and future collaborations between Mali and the United Kingdom in the educational sector. UK Support for Malian Education Officials highlighted the United Kingdom’s support, both bilaterally and through multilateral initiatives, particularly the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), which contributes to improving access, quality, and equity in Mali’s education system. Year of Education and Culture 2026-2027 Minister Sy Savane also reminded the British delegation of Mali’s decision to declare 2026-2027 as the “Year of Education and Culture”, emphasizing the government’s commitment to strengthening educational programs and cultural initiatives nationwide. The meeting underscored the desire of both countries to expand cooperation, promote knowledge exchange, and support sustainable development in education.
