Masisi: Violent Clashes Between M23 and Wazalendo Worsen Humanitarian Crisis

Par Sarah Ndaya2 min de lectureEnglish

Violent fighting erupted on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, between AFC/M23 rebels and Wazalendo armed groups in the Masisi territory of North Kivu, particularly affecting the localities of Ngululu and Kataandwa.

According to local sources, the Wazalendo seized control of the village of Mulema, while AFC/M23 established a presence in Karere, about 3 km from the center of Kazinga. The exchanges of fire caused mass displacement of residents to safer areas and a climate of panic, notably in Mwesso and Mbuhi, where a civilian was wounded by a stray bullet.

These clashes are disrupting access to humanitarian aid and exacerbating the security and humanitarian crisis in the region.
