Mali’s Transition President Presents Mining Development Funds to Local Authorities
Bamako, March 12, 2026 - General Assimi Goïta, President of the Transition and Head of State, presided over a ceremonial presentation of giant checks from the Local Mining Development Fund to nine municipalities on Thursday at Koulouba Palace. The event was attended by Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maïga, the President of the National Transition Council, the Ministers of Territorial Administration, Mines, Economy and Finance, and other government and administrative officials, including the Minister-Commissioner in charge of mining affairs. Goïta praised the government’s efforts in implementing a key recommendation from the National Refounding Conference by distributing the mining development funds to local communities. According to Alousséni Sanou, Minister of Economy and Finance, the total allocation from the fund for the 2025 financial year amounts to over 18.4 billion CFA francs, aimed at supporting local development projects and strengthening the benefits of Mali’s mining sector for municipalities.
