Mali | Record Mining Revenues Exceed 1,000 Billion CFA Francs

Bamako, January 12, 2026 - Mali has recorded mining revenues of 1,022 billion CFA francs paid to the State, far exceeding initial projections of 400 billion CFA francs. The announcement was made by the President of the Transition, General Assimi Goïta, during the New Year’s greetings ceremony addressed to Malian civil society. The results reflect negotiations that led to the recovery of 761 billion CFA francs in arrears from mining companies, an increase of approximately 580 billion CFA francs compared to previous years. These funds were disbursed following a sector audit launched in 2023 and the adoption of a new Mining Code. The reforms include indexing revenues to world gold prices, replacing fixed payments, and depositing revenues from gold sales in local banks, generating an estimated annual flow of 6 trillion CFA francs for the Malian banking system.
