Mali Adopts 2026 Budget, Targets Deficit Reduction and Economic Recovery
Bamako, December 10, 2025 - Mali’s National Transitional Council (CNT) has adopted the draft budget law for the 2026 fiscal year, setting total expenditures at 3,578 billion CFA francs, authorities announced on Tuesday.
The new budget forecasts a 10% reduction in the budget deficit compared to the previous year, while remaining in line with the convergence criteria of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). The government is projecting economic growth of 6.3%, despite ongoing security pressures and climate-related challenges affecting the Sahel.
According to official documents, the 2026 budget prioritizes security, education, and health, sectors considered critical to state reconstruction and improvements in living conditions for the population. Significant allocations to these areas are intended to strengthen national resilience and support inclusive, long-term development.
The adoption of the budget is seen as a signal of increased fiscal discipline and budgetary maturity under the transition authorities. Analysts say it could help bolster confidence among international partners and investors, at a time when Mali is deepening regional coordination within the framework of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
