Lualaba: Deadly Landslide at Kawama Mining Site, Minister Promises Sanctions
Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DRC - A tragic landslide occurred at the Mulondo mining site in the Kawama district, claiming the lives of several young artisanal miners. In response, Minister of Mines Willy Wantum announced exemplary sanctions against those responsible, including military personnel and national and provincial officials, declaring that "no one is above the law."
The Minister condemned the persistent negligence prevalent at artisanal mining sites nationwide and called for urgent reinforcement of safety measures to better protect human lives, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
