Bagata, Kwango Province - December 13, 2025 - More than 30 people died when a small boat capsized on the Kwango River near the village of Bolo.

According to MP Gary Sakata, most of the victims were teachers traveling to Bandundu to collect their salaries, while several other passengers remain missing. The vessel was also carrying around 700 sacks of corn and cassava, all of which were lost when the boat struck an obstacle.

This disaster echoes a similar incident in September 2024, which resulted in 12 deaths, multiple missing persons, and dozens of survivors.

Authorities have yet to provide further details on rescue operations or investigations into the cause of the accident.
