Kolwezi Plane Accident: All Passengers Safe Despite Fire
Kolwezi, November 17, 2025 - An Embraer ERJ-145 operated by Airjet Angola veered off the runway and caught fire at Kolwezi Airport, causing significant material damage. The aircraft was carrying 26 passengers and 3 crew members, including Minister of Mines Louis Watum Kabamba on an emergency mission to Lualaba following the Kalando mining disaster.
Officials confirmed no casualties, as all occupants were evacuated safely before the fire engulfed the plane. The Permanent Bureau of Investigation and Analysis for Aviation Accidents (BPEA) has been dispatched to determine the cause of the accident and assign responsibility.
