Kinshasa, DRC - The Kinshasa Economic Forum for Sustainable Sanitation opened on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, bringing together government officials, private sector actors, and civil society representatives for three days of discussions on tackling the city’s chronic sanitation challenges.

Supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands, the forum aimed to foster partnerships in waste management and promote shared civic responsibility. Key speakers, including Dutch Deputy Ambassador Jennyfer Imperator and City of Kinshasa representative Melia Bosiki, emphasized the importance of changing public mindset and mobilizing collective action to improve urban hygiene.

The city has already taken concrete steps, reopening the Mpasa landfill and receiving 100 of the 300 trucks planned to enhance waste collection and management. Organizers stressed that collaborative efforts between authorities, communities, and international partners are essential to ensuring sustainable sanitation solutions for Kinshasa’s growing population.
