Kinshasa Accuses Kigali of Violating the Washington Peace Agreement
Kinshasa - The Congolese government denounced on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Rwanda's “flagrant violation” of the peace agreement signed on December 4, 2025, in Washington between President Félix Tshisekedi and President Paul Kagame. The government expressed deep concern over new Rwandan incursions into South Kivu.
During a meeting with Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, the government delegation emphasized the urgency of implementing the commitments outlined in the agreement and responding to an escalation described as intolerable, given that it challenges the authority of the American mediator.
Following the meeting, government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya denounced a “regionalization of the conflict”, accusing Kigali of also targeting Burundi, and urged the mediator to act to restore peace.
The government reaffirmed its determination to defend territorial integrity, protect civilian populations affected by the rebel advance, and intensify diplomatic consultations to preserve the peace process initiated in Washington.
