Kasai-Central: Ravine Cuts Off Railway Line in Demba, Civil Society Calls for Emergency Action

Par Amina Kabasele2 min de lectureEnglish

Heavy rains that struck Kasai-Central earlier this week caused significant damage, notably cutting the railway line in Benaleka, Demba territory, paralyzing rail traffic between Kasai and Kasai-Central.

The disruption isolates Kananga from Mweka, a key supplier of essential agricultural products such as maize, raising concerns of a potential local economic and food crisis. National Route 41 has also been damaged, further complicating road traffic, while the Catholic parish of Benaleka is threatened by the advancing ravine.

In response, the New Congolese Civil Society of Demba has launched an appeal to provincial and national authorities for urgent intervention to rehabilitate infrastructure, protect the population, and restore rail and road connectivity.
