Kabare: Clashes Renew Between M23 and Wazalendo Despite Doha Ceasefire
On Thursday, November 13, fighting erupted in the Kabare territory of South Kivu, pitting M23 rebels against Wazalendo fighters (AVAFAC), particularly in the areas of Mutshshemi, Kabukungu, and around the “Chez Mbayo” plantation, causing widespread panic and population displacement.
Local sources reported that the hostilities lasted nearly three hours, featuring intense exchanges of light and heavy weapons fire, following an M23 attack on Wazalendo positions.
Civil society in Kabare denounced this resumption of fighting as a violation of the Doha ceasefire and accused M23 of pursuing a belligerent strategy by approaching Kahuzi-Biega National Park, a designated neutral zone.
While peace negotiations continue in Washington, tensions remain high on the ground, with the FARDC and M23 accusing each other of not respecting commitments in several areas of South and North Kivu, prompting civil society to demand urgent intervention from the authorities and international partners.
