JNIM Seizes Militia Headquarters in Ouahigouya, Northern Burkina Faso
Ouahigouya, December 17, 2025 - The armed group JNIM (Jama’at Nasr al-Islam wal Muslimin) announced on Wednesday evening that it had taken control of the headquarters of a Burkinabe militia in Bangassi, located in the Ouahigouya region of northern Burkina Faso.
The takeover marks a significant escalation in the area, raising concerns over the security situation in the northern regions. Local authorities have not yet released details on possible casualties or ongoing operations to regain control.
This development highlights the persistent challenges faced by Burkina Faso in containing militant activities in the north, despite ongoing national security efforts.
