Ituri: Displaced Persons in Gina Call for Increased Security to Return Home

Nearly 4,000 displaced people remain around the MONUSCO base in the Gina area of Djugu territory, Ituri, more than three months after clashes between the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) and CRP militias (Republican People's Corps).

The displaced population is demanding increased security to safely return to their villages. During a meeting on Tuesday, November 11, with a UN delegation, they denounced the persistent insecurity that prevents them from cultivating their land and resuming normal life. Many are living in precarious conditions, sometimes sleeping outdoors.

They called for a strengthened FARDC presence, increased patrols by UN peacekeepers, and the resumption of intercommunal dialogue to restore social cohesion. MONUSCO assured the community that it continues to secure the area and facilitate the safe return of the population.
