Israeli Veterans Visit Rwanda, Excited for First Trip to Africa

Kigali, Rwanda - November 25, 2025 - A group of 14 Israeli veterans, rehabilitated after being injured in combat, visited Rwanda, marking their first return to the African continent. The delegation was warmly received by the Israeli Ambassador to Rwanda, Einat Weiss.

Among the visitors, Moti Harari, a mostly disabled soldier from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), expressed excitement about the trip. “We are happy to be back in Rwanda and look forward to learning a lot during our week-long stay,” he said.

The veterans are accommodated at the Beit Halochem facility, a center supporting wounded soldiers through cultural, recreational, and sports activities. While private, the Israeli government supports five such centers to aid in the rehabilitation of former soldiers.

Beit Halochem’s Sports Director, Miki Uzai, highlighted the significance of the visit. “Arriving in Rwanda is an exciting experience because it is our first time in Africa. We have visited Paris, London, and Vancouver, but this is special. We are grateful to the Embassy, the Government of Israel, and the Government of Rwanda,” he said.

Uzai noted Rwanda’s development in coffee and tea exports and recognized the country as one of the leading nations on the African continent. “Compared to the 54 African countries, Rwanda ranks among the best,” he added.

During their stay, the veterans are expected to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to honor victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi and learn about Rwanda’s history and recovery. They will also experience gorilla trekking, and participate in friendly sports games, including Wheelchair Basketball.

This visit is seen as an opportunity to strengthen cultural understanding, celebrate resilience, and promote recreational rehabilitation for the veterans.
