His Excellency Mr. Angus McKee, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Mali, attended the opening of a specialized training session for military magistrates and commanders on Monday, November 17.
The program, implemented by the Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF) and co-funded by the United Kingdom and Switzerland, is designed to enhance the operational capacity of Mali’s defense and security personnel in key areas of international law and civilian protection.
Participants will focus on strengthening skills in the protection of civilians, international humanitarian law, and human rights in armed conflict contexts. The initiative aims to:
Integrate civilian protection into the planning and execution of military operations;
Enhance coordination with national and international mechanisms for conflict management; and
Promote the sharing of best practices among military magistrates and commanders.
The training represents part of Mali’s broader commitment to professionalizing its defense and security forces, improving compliance with international standards, and mitigating civilian harm in ongoing operations against terrorism and organized crime.
