Uvira, DRC - December 26, 2025

Tensions have sharply escalated in Uvira after the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) reportedly destroyed two Rwandan fast patrol boats at Kalundu Port early Friday morning.

The boats-described as rapid gunboats allegedly linked to Rwandan forces-were neutralized near the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Only one vessel is said to remain in the attackers’ possession.

This development follows the recent AFC/M23 setback in Makobola and comes as FARDC units advance to within 8 kilometers of Uvira, with only two strategic hills separating government forces from full control of the city.

Early this morning, gunshots were also heard in several neighborhoods, including Kalimabengi and Kanvinvira, sparking panic among residents.

Local sources report increased military mobilization, while residents fear a further escalation as the situation on the ground continues to evolve rapidly.

No official statement has yet been released by Congolese authorities.
