Kinshasa - On Monday, December 8, 2025, the Congolese government announced a ban on the use of military and police escorts, sirens, flashing lights, and multi-colored lights throughout the country.

This measure, issued on the instructions of the President of the Republic, responds to observed abuses, particularly by unauthorized individuals. The decision aims to restore public order and strictly regulate security escorts, explicitly prohibiting their use by private vehicles.

The New Congolese Civil Society welcomed the initiative, calling it an important step toward fairness, respect for the highway code, and the end of undue privileges. The organization urged rigorous and uncompromising enforcement, under the close supervision of law enforcement authorities.
