Gao Authorities Boost Administrative Capacity and Extend Support to Vulnerable Groups

Gao, Mali - The Malian government has reinforced its commitment to improving public service delivery and supporting vulnerable populations through a dual initiative spearheaded by Major General Moussa Traoré, Governor of the Gao Region.

During a ceremony in Gao, Governor Traoré handed over computer equipment and office furniture to prefects and sub-prefects across the region, a move aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and bringing government services closer to local communities.

"The highest authorities are equipping all State representatives, especially those assigned to newly established administrative areas," Maj. Gen. Traoré said. "This marks the beginning of broader efforts to improve the working and living conditions of public service staff."

Receiving the materials, Médian Koné, Prefect of the Ouattagouna Circle, expressed gratitude on behalf of his peers and pledged responsible use of the equipment."We assure the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization that the equipment will be properly maintained and used to serve the population effectively," he said.

In a parallel initiative, the Governor distributed food aid to vulnerable individuals and community organizations as part of Mali’s National Month of Solidarity, observed each October.

Maj. Gen. Traoré emphasized that while the donations were modest, they symbolized the government’s enduring support for the people of Gao."The value of giving lies not in the quantity, but in the spirit behind it," he said, thanking the President of the Transition and the Food Security Commission for backing the initiative.

Officials noted that these measures align with broader national efforts to strengthen governance, foster social cohesion, and ensure that administrative services remain accessible to citizens.
