Four Dead in Irumu After Another ADF Attack

Par Jean-Marc Okito2 min de lectureEnglish

Irumu, Ituri - Four people were killed on Tuesday in Idohu, about 100 kilometers from Bunia, during an attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) that paralyzed socio-economic activity in the Irumu territory, where violence has been escalating over the past week.

According to civil society sources, the assailants beheaded three villagers ambushed in Kimbaseke before advancing on Idohu, where they were repelled by the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo). A child was fatally struck by a stray bullet.

Several residents abducted in Monge remain hostage, while about ten houses were burned down, and an illegal administration imposed by the rebels is spreading to nearby villages, where the ADF are demanding “gifts” for access to fields.

Faced with this resurgence of attacks as the end-of-year holidays approach, civil society is calling on the army to strengthen security, while the FARDC have not yet responded.
