FARDC Repel AFC/M23 Offensive in Walikale
Walikale, April 8, 2026 - The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), supported by Wazalendo fighters, repelled an offensive by AFC/M23 rebels in Walikale territory, following several hours of intense fighting on April 7. Clashes broke out around 11:00 a.m. in the villages of Minjenje and at the Nkingwe bridge, located in the Banakindi area within the Kisimba group. According to local and security sources, the rebels launched the हमला from Malemo in neighboring Masisi territory, targeting FARDC positions. Heavy and light weapons were used during the exchanges, which lasted until approximately 5:00 p.m., triggering panic among residents in surrounding villages. Security sources reported that FARDC and allied Wazalendo forces managed to contain and push back the attackers toward their positions in Malemo. A preliminary toll indicates that at least seven rebel fighters were killed during the clashes. Military operations are ongoing as government forces seek to consolidate their positions in the area. The Kisimba zone, considered strategic due to its key access routes, remains exposed to potential renewed incursions.
