Equateur Marks 80 Years of the UN, Urges Continued Presence of UN Agencies
Mbandaka, Equateur, DRC - On Friday, 24 October 2025, the province of Equateur celebrated the 80th anniversary of the United Nations in a ceremony attended by local authorities, UN agency representatives, and civil society actors.
During the event, the deputy governor issued an urgent appeal for UN agencies to maintain their offices in the region, warning that the planned closure of UNICEF’s local office by the end of November 2025 could undermine programs designed to protect and support vulnerable children.
Participants highlighted the historic partnership between the UN and Equateur province, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to advance local development and social programs.
