DRC: UNPC Demands Justice for Slain Journalists and Greater Protection for the Press
Kinshasa, DRC - On the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on November 2, the National Union of Journalists of Congo (UNPC) renewed its call for truth, justice, and vigilance in the face of continuing violence against media professionals.
Speaking in Kinshasa, UNPC President Kamanda Wa Kamanda Muzembe urged Congolese authorities to shed light on the unsolved murders of journalists Franck Ngike Kangundu, Bapuwa Mwamba, and Baudouin Kayembe, whose killings remain unpunished years later.
Kamanda denounced the fragility of press freedom in a country marked by insecurity and persistent threats to journalists, emphasizing that impunity continues to embolden perpetrators. He also called on media practitioners to exercise caution and responsibility in their work while honoring the memory of colleagues who lost their lives in the pursuit of truth - both in the Democratic Republic of Congo and around the world.
