DRC: UN Reports Nearly 2,800 Human Rights Violations in First Half of 2025

Kinshasa, DRC - The United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO) revealed in a press release on November 24, 2025, that it had recorded 2,767 human rights violations and breaches of international humanitarian law in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the first half of the year, marking an 11% increase compared to the previous six months.

According to the report, 86% of these violations were concentrated in conflict-affected provinces, primarily resulting from the intensification of M23 offensives in North and South Kivu, as well as abuses committed by the ADF and CODECO in Ituri and North Kivu. The total number of victims in these areas reached 8,635, a 12% increase compared to the previous period.

The report details 416 violations in Ituri, a 21% increase over one year, including 198 abuses attributed to the ADF, responsible for at least 1,071 victims. Additionally, the UNJHRO highlighted the involvement of state agents in cases of sexual violence, affecting 70 victims, most of which were perpetrated by members of the FARDC.
