DRC: Training for Magistrates in Kinshasa to Strengthen International Judicial Cooperation
Kinshasa, DRC - A workshop dedicated to strengthening international judicial cooperation concluded on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, in Kinshasa after three days of sessions involving civilian and military magistrates from multiple provinces.
Under the theme "International Judicial Cooperation: Some Regional Experiences," the workshop aimed to enhance understanding of cooperation agreements signed by the DRC, the management of requests for mutual legal assistance, and the use of letters rogatory, with the goal of limiting impunity for criminals who have taken refuge abroad.
Speakers, including Magistrate Aurélien Kajangu and Attorney General Pierre Shindano, emphasized that the training is essential for enabling Congolese courts to effectively prosecute offenders, regardless of their location of refuge.
Participants recommended better coordination between law enforcement agencies and the creation of liaison networks to improve regional cooperation.
The workshop was organized by the Great Lakes Region Judicial Cooperation Network, in partnership with the MONUSCO Justice Support Section.
