DRC: Teachers Denounce Payment Delays and Threaten Strike

Par Amina Kabasele2 min de lectureEnglish

Across the Democratic Republic of Congo, teachers are expressing discontent over recurring salary delays. They are criticizing the absence of salary reform and irregular recruitment practices, which complicate personnel management.

In South Ubangi province, the situation is particularly critical for teachers in Kungu territory, who have not received their September and October 2025 salaries. According to Emmanuel Bamolokola, spokesperson for the Espoir de Kungu teachers’ union, some educators are forced to take out loans at exorbitant interest rates, worsening their precarious situation.

Faced with these challenges, teachers are threatening to strike starting November 15 if no solution is implemented. Provincial and national authorities have pledged to engage in discussions to regularize payments and improve working conditions.
