DRC-Rwanda Agreement: Félix Tshisekedi Denounces Violations and Reaffirms National Sovereignty

Kinshasa - In his State of the Nation address before Parliament on December 8, 2025, President Félix Tshisekedi accused Rwanda of deliberately violating the ceasefire established by the peace agreement signed on December 4 in Washington, D.C.

According to Tshisekedi, Rwandan forces bombed several localities in South Kivu, including Kaziba, Katokota, and Lubarika, from Rwandan territory. While condemning these attacks, the President recalled the commitments under the agreement-including the withdrawal of Rwandan troops, the cessation of hostilities, and the creation of joint security mechanisms.

He reaffirmed the DRC’s commitment to the diplomatic path without compromising its sovereignty or the security of its citizens. Tshisekedi emphasized that the agreement does not imply sovereignty sharing, does not endorse territorial claims or the sale of mineral resources, and grants no amnesty for crimes committed.

The President further highlighted that the security crisis in eastern DRC stems from a proxy war and resource plundering, while expressing solidarity with displaced populations and victims of armed conflict, affirming the state’s commitment to their protection.
