Kinshasa, DRC - President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo convened a government meeting on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, to assess the impact of the appreciation of the Congolese franc (CDF) on the economy and household purchasing power. The meeting was held at the African Union headquarters and brought together Prime Minister Judith Suminwa, key government ministers, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Congo.

According to Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the national economy, Daniel Mukoko Samba, the discussions focused on strengthening coordination between monetary and fiscal policies to ensure that the recent appreciation of the franc translates into lower market prices for goods and services.

The government is also considering a downward adjustment of petroleum product prices and plans to consult economic operators in the coming days to reinforce price controls and address public expectations. Analysts say the measures aim to stabilize the economy and protect household purchasing power amid fluctuating currency trends.
