DRC National Assembly: Twelve Sacred Union MPs Vie for Presidency
Kinshasa, DRC - Twelve Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Sacred Union have officially submitted their candidacies for the presidency of the National Assembly, with no women among the contenders, coalition officials confirmed.
The announcement came on Friday, 24 October 2025, by André Mbata, permanent secretary of the Sacred Union. The candidacy files have since been forwarded to the High Political Authority, President Félix Tshisekedi, who is the sole authority empowered to designate the official candidate to be presented for a vote in the Assembly.
Among the declared contenders are three MPs from the ruling UDPS party-Doudou Dunia Mangu Mangu, Patrick Matata Makalamba, and Crispin Mbindule Mitono-and two from the UNC, namely Aimé Boji Sangara and Jean-Baudouin Mayo Mambeke. The remaining candidates come from a range of political groups, ensuring geopolitical representation across the east, west, and center of the country.
All twelve candidates have pledged to respect the final decision of the Head of State, signaling unity behind the presidential designation process within the ruling coalition. Analysts suggest that President Tshisekedi’s choice will be pivotal in shaping the legislative agenda and political alignment in the National Assembly for the coming term.
