DRC: Consular Judges Strike Over Unpaid Salaries, Threatening Commercial Justice

Kinshasa, DRC - Consular judges in the Democratic Republic of Congo have extended their strike, protesting the non-payment of salaries since the creation of commercial courts. The issue was raised during a meeting on Monday, October 27, 2025, with Justice Minister Guillaume Ngefa.

The judges stressed that the 2023 law mandating payment of their salaries by the Public Treasury has yet to be implemented, a situation that is partially paralyzing the country’s commercial justice system.

Minister Ngefa assured that he would consult with the Ministries of Budget and Finance and the Prime Minister’s Office to address the issue. Meanwhile, consular judges, who play a critical role in resolving economic disputes, are calling for an urgent solution to safeguard the dignity of their office and ensure the proper functioning of the courts.
