DRC: André Wameso announces sustained appreciation of the Congolese franc
On 9 October 2025, the Governor of the Central Bank of Congo (BCC), André Wameso, stated that, according to all market indicators, the Congolese franc will continue to appreciate. This statement comes after a significant reduction in the BCC's key interest rate, from 25% to 17.5%, aimed at strengthening monetary stability and encouraging investment.
Wameso highlighted the BCC's efforts to restore confidence in the national currency, despite the challenges associated with downward price rigidity in the market. He also pointed out that the fall in the prices of imported goods, which are denominated in dollars, should follow this trend, although this process may take time.
This policy is part of the government's action programme to improve the purchasing power of the Congolese population.
