Dosso: Deadly Clashes Between ISGS and Nigerien Forces in Goubey
Dosso, December 17, 2025 - Violent armed clashes erupted on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at approximately 3:00 PM in Goubey, near Dioundiou in the Dosso department, between elements of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) and a joint patrol of Nigerien Defense and Security Forces (FDS).
Security sources report that the patrol, operating as part of departmental and border security missions, came under intense fire from ISGS fighters. The confrontation resulted in significant losses of personnel and equipment.
13 FDS personnel killed: 3 police officers, 1 National Guard member from the joint departmental and border patrol in Dioundiou, and 9 members of the Niger Armed Forces (FAN) from Operation Damissa based in Karakara.
1 seriously injured (FAN member in Damissa)
2 vehicles destroyed by fire: one belonging to the departmental patrol and one from Damissa.
The incident underscores the continuing security challenges in Niger’s border regions and the ongoing threat posed by extremist groups in the Sahel.
