Digital Justice in Burkina Faso: Enhancing Transparency, Speed, and Efficiency Through e-Services

Ouagadougou, December 12, 2025 - The Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, responsible for relations with institutions, showcased the impact of digitalization on Burkina Faso’s judicial services in a press visit organized by the Directorate of Communication and Press Relations. The tour highlighted new platforms including electronic criminal justice, communication permits, and RCCM (Register of Commerce and Companies) derivative documents.

Journalists first visited the Ouaga I High Court, where the electronic Burkinabè nationality certificate platform has received 48,931 applications as of December 11, 2025, generating 24,465,500 FCFA in state revenue. Of these, 37,336 certificates were issued, while 10,144 (27.16%) were rejected, mostly due to non-compliant or poorly scanned documents. Staff emphasized submitting authentic, clear documents and avoiding fraudulent attempts.

The tour continued at the central office for electronic criminal records, which has handled 418,241 applications, issuing 393,574 records and rejecting 23,596 (5.99%). Rejections were mainly caused by inaccurate birthplaces, occupations, or poorly scanned documents. The office maintains a database of 30,343 convicted individuals and 1,018 recorded offenses, ensuring accuracy and transparency.

Officials highlighted that these platforms, covering 11 regional courts for nationality certificates, streamline procedures, enhance traceability, and build public trust. The initiative reflects Burkina Faso’s commitment to modernizing the justice system while emphasizing the responsibility of users to provide correct, legible, and authentic documentation.

Through these digital tools, the Ministry seeks to make judicial services faster, more transparent, and reliable, reinforcing citizens’ confidence in public institutions and advancing the country’s broader modernization agenda.
