Crisis in Eastern DRC: Kagame Accuses Kinshasa, DRC Firmly Rejects Allegations
Kigali/Kinshasa - On Thursday, November 27, 2025, Rwandan President Paul Kagame accused the Congolese government of refusing to assume its responsibilities in managing the security crisis in eastern DRC. He specifically criticized Kinshasa for refusing dialogue with the M23, an armed group accused by the United Nations of receiving support from the Rwandan army, a claim Kigali denies.
Concerning the reopening of Goma airport, sought for humanitarian reasons, Kagame stated that the decision should be discussed “directly with the rebels who control the city.”
Kinshasa immediately rejected these remarks, reminding Rwanda of its obligation to respect bilateral agreements. Through government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya, the DRC referred to Paul Kagame as the “father” of the M23, underscoring the seriousness of the accusations.
These verbal tensions occur amid ongoing instability in the region, despite diplomatic efforts deployed in Washington and Doha to stabilize the eastern DRC.
