Central Bank of Congo Assumes Chairmanship in Central Africa for 2025-2026
Kinshasa - The Central Bank of Congo (BCC) has been appointed chairman of the Central Africa sub-region within the Bureau of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) for the 2025-2026 term, following the 47th annual meeting held from November 23 to 28, 2025, in Yaoundé.
Represented by its Governor André Wameso, the BCC participated in discussions on the African single currency, the African Monetary Fund, and the integration of climate issues into monetary policies. The review of the African Monetary Cooperation Programme revealed that only 12 countries meet the five key macroeconomic convergence criteria, prompting the AACB to call for an acceleration of reforms.
This appointment positions the BCC as a strategic actor in harmonizing the regional monetary framework and preparing for the 48th AACB meeting, scheduled for 2026 in Kenya. On the sidelines, Wameso met with the Governor of the BEAC, Yvon Sana Bangui, concluding a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening expertise exchange and pooling efforts to address common macroeconomic challenges.
